Archive for the ‘Sites Sighted’ Category

Tons of links to Japanese sites and foreign sites.

sh.gifWhat can I say. This e-zine has it all. It took me a little while to figure out the navigation. I actually couldn’t read an article until my 5th visit. This e-zine brings together the same kind of people I would love to bring together. I hope to offer some proofreading for them in exchange for some syndication rights. I would love to put some of the articles on my site. Man I wish I lived in Tokyo but slept here in Mikage. Take a look at some of the events they put on. SOSO Cafe looks great but it’s in Sapporo. I’m going to work more on my portfolio and then contact them. If you go to the Cool Site Archive you can see over 1,600 great sites. I get lost in them. One WOW after another. Take a journey.

artless.gifHere are some links to some great design agencies and designers here in Japan. As always, your comments are very welcome.

I found this site that offers a “good design award” here in Japan. The winner was the Sapporo City Hall’s website facility page. It’s a big site but I don’t see the attraction. Nothing special. It doesn’t catch my eye in the slightest. Not quite sure what the criteria were for the award. I thought this picture meant that the site was going to be nice. Couldn’t find the picture on the site.

I’ll look at the other winners maybe tomorrow.

sites_japan.gifWhat is your opinion of the design of these sites?

Text in Japan is supposed to take up 50% of the site. More information is better seems to be the norm. Why? What do you think of the composition of Japanese web sites? Have you worked with Japanese firms to design a site?

What is your experience?

I will be conducting a survey with various agencies around Japan in the coming months but would like to hear your comments.

I was talking to one of the teachers at Berlitz the other day and he mentioned an out service at Canopus. At first I didn’t recognize the name but after doing a bit of surfing I realized who they were.

Based in San Jose, Calif., Canopus Corporation manufactures award-winning, nonlinear video editing products for video professionals and enthusiasts. Canopus’s DV editing, MPEG encoding, 3D DVE and video transcoding products combine innovative hardware and software designs to set new standards in performance, functionality and reliability. Canopus Corporation’s parent company, Canopus Co., Ltd., with headquarters in Kobe, is Japan’s largest maker of video editing and graphics products.

Do I quit working as an English an start working there. A few other Berlitz teachers left Berlitz and started working there or do I continue to put my free time between classes into making Worldnet Japan work?

I don’t think the money would be that much better than I’m making now doing the teaching and freelance and if I went there I may be stuck doing overtime. Not sure.
