The Expoland amusement park here is to be closed for an indefinite period from Monday, after the number of visitors plummeted following the deadly derailment of its rollercoaster in May, its operator said. ======== The Yomiuri Shimbun OSAKA–Expoland amusement park, where a roller coaster derailment killed a woman and injured 19 passengers in May, will suspend its operations from Monday for renovation work, the park’s operator said Friday. The amusement park in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, had been closed from May to August as a result of the derailment. The firm plans to replace many rides and remove the Fujin-Raijin II roller coaster involved in the fatal derailment. A date for reopening the amusement park has yet to be decided, the firm said. Only 88,000 visitors came to the park from August to the end of November, just 20 percent of the total during the same period the previous year. The firm is expected to report a deficit of 1 billion yen in the business year ending in March. ======= EXPOLAND was opened as the Amusement Zone at the International Exposition in 1970 and has won popularity for more than 30 years as an Amusement Park.
