Yep! Looks like I’m on my way. I can’t believe how fast this is going. The next big hurdle is getting a student loan in Japan. The only reason I can get one is because I’m a permanent resident. Pretty lucky. It would have been virtually impossible to go back to school without a loan.

I’ve been asking many of the other university teachers if they thought it was a good idea to spend the money and go back. Because we already have jobs and have built a network, it’s not so necessary to have a Masters, although it helps. Many believe it’s a waste of time and others simply think of it as insurance. The Japanese I have spoken believe I have a VERY good chance of becoming a professor yet the foreigners I have spoken to think it’s almost impossible.

Learn the language. Become fluent. Write. Speak and learn how to bow deeply. That’s all I’m going off of at the moment. Oh, and devote 20 or 30 hours a week to studying at the same time.

Anyone wanna go out for one more big night before I plunge to the depths of academia?

Hey that’s great news Mike! Good luck. Quite envious… really wish I could get back into learning *properly*. The odd hour here and there just isn’t working for me :(

Will have a pint for you tonight! Or two.

Hey Shell. The next time you go to the pub and have a pint I don’t want you to have one or two for me. I want you to raise your glass at the bar sometime around 12:00 and pour a little on the bar for me. Then say “There yank! Ya slack jawed yokel.”

I’m sure I can manage that… I just remember I’m supposed to be looking up your beer. That’s my task for the weekend!
