There are basically six types of drinking establishments in Japan.

Izakaya - Serves food with a big menu
Stand up bar - Often serves small cheap dishes
Snack - Usually serves small EXPENSIVE dishes and karaoke
Hostess Club - The dishes are the girls and you pay through the roof
Shot bar - No food and looks like a traditional, although tiny, bar
Gaijin Bar - Where expats hang out–usually a pub atmosphere. Food.

For me, a bar has food. When I drink, I like to eat. Food, drink, talk, drink, talk, eat, drink talk; my recipe for a beer belly. Seems to work well.

Last Thursday I was heading home early, we usually go out with Nomunication on Thursdays but I had to go home because I spent my allowance three weeks before, and I got a call while I was waiting for the train. Tomoko was the only one who didn’t read the Google group cancellation, and she lives VERY far away. Another great excuse to use the credit card. :-)

Hi, thank you for accompanying the other night!
I’ve just seen this website and so ashamed now!!!
I thought you’re kidding.
I wish people who see me wouldn’t think I’m a bossy, a drunken and a crazy girl.

Anyway, I’m wondering if the other contries have Izakaya or Hostess club.
Does Japan has more various places to drink than others?

I had fun the other night. Thanks!

You shouldn’t be ashamed, I’m looking forward to the next interview. This time I’ll think about the microphone.

I remember in Germany, we used to go to a sort of pub. Irish bars were also pretty popular.

I would have to say that Japan has a better variety of places to drink.
