Since I love eating here so much, I thought I’d give you an idea of how much it actually costs to eat here.
Breakfast
Grilled fish with miso soup and rice - I don’t know. I never order it. Maybe 400 yen.
A sandwich at Lawsons - 220 yen
a quart of juice - 180 yen
Lunch
A bento consisting of fried pork steak, cabbage salad, potato salad and rice - 550 yen
A can of soda - 110 yen from the vending machine
You could go to a cheap sushi place and get a 6 piece soup lunch set for about 600 yen including tea.
Dinner
Matsuya, Yoshinoya, Coco’s, or one of the many ticket dispenser 24 hour eateries can feed you for around 600 yen. If you are feeling especially rich, then head over to a Suikoden. For about 1,000 yen you can get stuffed, not including a 480 yen beer–I suggest the extra big beer for 620 yen. Many of these izakayas have course menus and nomihodais (all-you-can-drink) for around 3,000 yen. The nomihodais usually go for 90 minutes but you can find them for 2 hours. The course menus are not usually that good. I suggest finding a place that offers beers at around 350 and then ordering just a few things from the menu. It comes out cheaper and tastes better.
Paying - Coupons
In Kansai there is a great discount magazine called Hotpepper. Become familiar with this book. It’ll save you alot. AND if you are able to get a credit card, then present it to possibly get a 10-15% discount. Always think of the points you get for using that card.
